New Proposed Bridge and Changes to other Road Plans

How about this item on the City of Kyle Agenda, Wednesday, Oct 4, 2017?  There is a new bridge, plus changes to four planned roads.  However, there are no public hearings for this vote.  You can speak at the regularly scheduled public comment period if you wish.

  1. Consider possible action to update the Transportation Master Plan. ~ Leon Barba,

P.E., City Engineer

The Transportation Master Plan was updated and adopted by City Council on March 15, 2016. City Council is being asked to consider the adoption of five new amendments described as:

Amendment #1 – Blanco River Span Bridge

Amendment #2 – Kyle Parkway from Dacy Lane to Lehman Rd.

Amendment #3 – Rebel Road/RM 150 from Center St. to IH35 Southbound Frontage Road

Amendment #4 – Bebee Rd. connection from Seton Parkway to Kyle Parkway

Amendment #5 – Seton Parkway South Extension

Let’s take a closer look.

#Amendment #1 — Blanco River Span Bridge – This is part of an agreement the City of Kyle approved on May 3, 2016.  The Nance-Bradshaw developer’s agreement passed council via a 5-2 vote.  It appears the bridge is needed to help the development take place.

Recently, the Blanco River Span Bridge was on the CAMPO agenda.  The City of Kyle had hoped to get it approved for the CAMPO Transportation Plan.  The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) is the federally mandated metropolitan planning organization (MPO) responsible for comprehensive transportation planning in the Austin, Texas, USA, area, including Williamson, Travis, Hays, Bastrop, Burnet and Caldwell counties. CAMPO is one of 25 Texas MPOs.

The CAMPO Board members stated that bringing it to CAMPO was premature because the bridge is not on the City of Kyle Master Road Plan.  It’s not on the City of San Marcos or Hays County plans either.

Kyle Roads getting Improved

So what’s up with the road construction we are seeing around Kyle?

The Kyle Crossing bridge, is being expanded. This should help with the large volume of traffice exiting by Home Depot. In addition, the bridge is getting new turn around lanes.

The north face of the Kyle Parkway bridge will also get a turn around lane. These upgrades are scheduled to complete by early 2011.

In early 2011, work will begin on the access roads south of Kyle Parkway, and turn around lanes will be added to the south face of the Kyle Parkway bridge.

Turn around lanes will also be added to the Center St. bridge.
