Welcome Back Message from Hays CISD Superintendent

Hays CISD has a new superintendent. Dr. Eric Wright has started as of January 1, 2018. Here is his letter to parents and staff.

Dear Parents and Colleagues,

Happy New Year to all of you! Welcome back to our staff members and all of our students who will be returning to class in the morning. I am excited about the promise of 2018 and all of the wonderful things we will accomplish together. In the coming weeks, I will be visiting campuses, meeting with local business and government leaders, introducing myself to civic and faith-based organizations, and getting to know you and our communities. It is my most sincere belief that we are a partnership with the greatest job in the world – teaching our children and shaping the future. It is an awesome responsibility, but one that comes with extraordinary rewards.

As you get to know me, you will find that I am an optimistic person. I believe in transparency and putting systems in place that allow us to achieve our goals. One thing you will quickly find is that I want you to have an exceptional experience interacting with the school district. It belongs to you and there is no place here for bureaucracy.

As we begin our journey together, my first priority is student achievement. You’ll find that every decision I make will be through the lens of how it will advance student success and opportunity. Educating students is why we are all here in Hays CISD. Core academics, especially reading, is critical. I also believe that we must ensure our courses and curriculum meet not only the needs of our students, but also their interests. Engaged students are those who realize their potential. I am a strong supporter of career and technical education and extracurricular involvement.

As we begin this new year, we are fewer than 100 students away from being a district with more than 20,000 students. For those of you who are longtime residents, I know this must be absolutely amazing. We owe you, and the strong foundation you created, credit for the successes of Hays CISD. Last May the district celebrated its 50th anniversary. I am humbled and enthusiastic to help lead us as we take the first steps toward our next 50 years. We are going to achieve great things together.

My promise to you is that our students will live up to the vision of our learner profile and that they will be academically prepared for college, career, and life.

Sincerely,
Dr. Eric Wright
Superintendent of Schools
