The Dia de los Muertos Mariachi Extravaganza celebration at Gregg-Clarke Park (next to the Kyle Pool) features fourteen musical and dance groups, including all Hays CISD Mariachi students. Between the hours of 10am until 2pm, on November 5, 2011, the students enrolled in the Hays CISD Mariachi program, ranging from 6th grade to 12th grade, are performing Mariachi, a music that has been passed down for generations. Almost $24,000 was distributed to eight groups of teachers in the school district. Foundation Executive Director Angie Mendez said,“It’s always been a challenging job for our committee of Foundation members to select from such great innovative ideas,” Mendez noted, adding that “more and Band-A-Mania comes to Shelton Stadium on November 5, 2010.
